Our Backyard!
On Sunday 10th June, 2012, Ballina Community Gardens, with support from Ballina Shire Council, will be celebrating World Environment Day at the garden.  The event will focus on what you can do in your backyard to assist in sustainable living practices and will include demonstrations and displays that showcase sustainability initiatives able to be incorporated into residential areas.

Tours and displays of the community garden will be running for the entire event.

Come along and plant a seedling in one of our community beds or take one home! Have your face painted!  Buy a raffle ticket for our mini worm farm so you can get recycling at home!  There will be refreshments, cakes, and a sausage sizzle  to cater to your hunger and thirst!

Garden membership and plot rental details will be available on the day for those interested in becoming active in the garden.

Hope to see you all there!

On 30 June, 2010, an inception meeting was held to form a management committee by interested members of the community to proceed with the establishment of a community garden in Ballina.  This group has formed and is known as Ballina Community Gardens Inc. The garden will be developed on land identified by Ballina Shire Council for the purpose of establishing a garden.  Since forming, we are now looking to increase our membership to facilitate our objectives.

The Objectives of the Garden are:

 - To promote, encourage and assist in cultivating, growing and cooking of fruit and vegetables.

- To educate the members of the BCG and the wider community in sustainable living practices and how to adapt them into their living situations.

- To support schools in teaching the growing of plants and sustainability.

- To provide a learning and leisure centre for aged members of the community.

- To provide an environment for disabled members of our community to learn and interact within the garden.

- To provide a space for all members of the community to enjoy and participate in community gardening.

The garden is in it's infancy so how it will grow, and develop is up to its members.  At present we are looking for 'workers' who want to assist in getting this garden up and running in a variety of areas, those who are prepared to fund raise, those who are active to join or run a POD to facilitate one of the many functions the garden needs to progress (see POD menu) and for those who want to get involved and do something in their community.  There is something for everyone to do, young and old! You do not have to want a 'garden plot' to be a member or even get your hands dirty! The jobs to do are endless and cover all kinds of skills from gardening, labouring, secretarial skills, education skills.  Everything a successful organisation needs................ WE NEED!

Everyone is welcome so come along and join in!  Email and membership details are to the left!
